Apatite (Kenhardt, South Africa)
Straussheim 1 Pegmatite, Kenhardt district, Northern Cape, South Africa. 60mm x 40mm x 15mm.
Mining started at Straussheim in 1952, the pegmatite was well know for a huge ammount of beryl and accesory minerals. It has however been closed for many years. This Apatite came from a collection held by one of the founding members of the Cape Town Gem & Mineral Club & must have been acquired from the mine while it was still operational. It's a really unusual item and something quite unique from the pegmatites in the Northern Cape of South Africa. Estimated shipping weight including packaging etc +/- 180gr.
