Olmiite (Kalahari Manganese Fields, South Africa)
N'Chwaning 2 Mine, Kalahari Manganese Fields, South Africa. 60mm x 40mm x 20mm.
This may look a little odd but it is a Olmiite. Right at the beginning these rather odd cubic "Poldervartites" came from a soecific level in N'Chwaning 2. Not long after the huge find was made, from then on we often see the spherical Olmiites and we now also know there is no real way of telling the two apart without detailed analysys. This specimen is really old, it's from the original finds and is unique showing the matrix as well as the breciated back with many little Olmiites wedged into the cracks.
